Ghanaian reggae artiste, Rocky Dawuni has revealed in a recent interview that his 2015 Grammy nomination he earned opened doors for other Ghanaian artistes to receive more nominations.
In an interview monitored by xorlali.com on Class FM, Rocky Dawuni said
“Even when I was nominated, the statement I made on the red carpet when they asked me, I told them that my nomination was a testament to all the great artistes I learned from, upon whose footsteps I learned from, upon whose footsteps I learned from – the Ampadus and all of those Ghanaian legends, whose music when I was a child I was learning, cutting my chops and all of that kind of stuff.”
He further said that;
“The tribute was to them because that was where I learned from and acquired a lot of different ideas and moved forward. So, it’s not a nomination that was self-serving for me, it’s a nomination for all of us, it’s opened the door. Other people can go get more nominations and win. It’s open but the only thing people have to know is that we’ve opened the door and that’s a very important thing.”
