Opoku Ware SHS has secured a spot in the semi-final stage of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) that took place on Friday at the Business School in the University of Ghana.
The first contest featured Opoku Ware SHS, Wesley Girls’ High, and Holy Child.
Opoku Ware SHS’ High was represented by Richmond Kyei Marfo and Noble Epton Asamoah who led the all-boys -school to victory at the end of the contest.
Gabriella Nonjo and Benedicta Dontoh represented Wesley Girls’ High whiles Sonrise SHS was represented by Nellie Vorleto and Samantha Ghartey.
At the beginning of the contest, Opoku Ware SHS scored 21 points while Wesley Girls’ High and Holy Child scored 15 and 15 points respectively.
In round two, Holy Child and Wesley Girls’ High who secured 16 and 15 points respectively could not catch the 26 points secured by Opoku Ware SHS.
The third round in which contestants are supposed to solve the “Problem of the day,” saw Holy Child scoring 6. Wesley Girls’ High secured 7 points while Opoku Ware SHS scored 9 points.
The Kumasi-based school sent signals they are title contenders this year as they ended the fourth round with 49 points. They were followed by Wesley Girls’ High with 37 and Holy Child with 32 points in the fourth round.
At the end of the contest, Opoku Ware SHS won the contest with 49 points as they did not answer any correct question to add to their points.
