A police officer has driven out all swimmers out of the sea at Sakumono. This act of the police is to make citizens adhere to the new COVID-19 measures put out by the president of Ghana Nana Akuffo Addo during his 23rd nation update on the 31st January 2021.
The exercise was carried out by the Ghana Tourism Authority under the orders of the president
The Ghana Tourism Authority has in a meeting with managers of Titanic beach advised them to closed down all their beaches and operate only their restaurant and they were advised to operate using take away services.
GTA tema also cautioned managers to take urgent steps to stop swimmers from swimming there.
The operation, according to the authority was necessitated by recent blatant disregard for the president’s directive that beaches should remain closed.
This falls in sharp contravention to the public order by President Akufo Addo that all beaches and pubs remain closed as Ghana battles the spread of the Coronavirus Pandemic.
This new variant of the deadly virus, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), is more contagious than the Coronavirus the world is battling.
Already, South Africa has been the first African country to record a case of this new strain of the virus. Nigeria is the latest to have recorded its first case.
Speaking on CitiFM on Ghana’s preparedness, Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe, revealed that aggressive testing is currently underway to determine whether Ghana has any case.
